I have been exploring "multiple print" techniques.
Generally meaning overprinting my prints to build up colour and forms.
Below is a detail of some monoprint/dry point prints I have been working on recently.
These are 3 plate prints...meaning I use 3 separate acetate plates.
1 for monoprinting.
1 for the Drypoint "fruit" etchings.
1 for the "random marks" etching.
Some of these prints will form pages to yet another artist book I am working on.
I am finding artists books are a great way to display my prints.
Rather than just filing them away in drawers.
My "art group" project for this year, is to create an artist book.
Each month we create a page or pages.
The "ideas or prompts" for direction to creating our monthly pages, come from the artists themselves.
We all put "a wrapped something" into a hat, and then take it in turns to pull a different "something" out.
Some of the ideas for this months challenge included a beautiful feather & chopsticks.
My something was this!!!

Yep, that's exactly what I thought "initially".
But on closer inspection of this torn piece of paper (that came out of someones calendar diary at the last minute I suspect!) I realized that it had so many possibilities...
I am instantly drawn to the 'torn' edge...so will work with that in mind.
Numbers, Lines, Letters, Months, Days, Black, Grey & White, Scrap, Paper, Print, Ink, Time,
There really is allot here...and that's not including all the stuff on that deeper level...
I like the challenge of these exercises...they keep life interesting.

I did a "multiple print" last year, but I didn't know that what it was called until I read this post.
I did a multiple print, because I wasn't happy with the drawing I did in the first place, so I cut the drawing up into postcard sized paper and put a print of a daruma over it.
layering! one of my favorite things - Jo, these are just wonderful - and now I can find out what drypoint printing is - your group challenge sounds really intriguing - I think challenges keep us moving and out of the 'stuck' zone! and yahoo, monoface is back! he is so crazy good!
I love your first set of shots. The colours remind me of old plaster in Italy. I'm not sure if these pieces are separate or part of one larger piece, but there's something about this first set that makes me think they are still in progress, on their way somewhere....Really like the contrast between the skinny black lines and those gorgeous sensual fluid lines showing the fruit.
Multiple printing.... I really love this Jo (and that touch of red!).
Great idea the prompts from your art group. Really does make you think even the most simple and mundane things.
These are wonderfully layered, and yet your product is still clean and uncluttered.
I certainly have found lately that printmaking is more fun for me if it is only part of the whole of what I am creating. And I love layering, too!
This layering of yours is quite wonderful. I am finding myself longing to return to some form of printmaking as I do love it.
The group challenges are also wonderful...a subject can invite so many ways of expression and going to deeper levels is always exciting. You're in an interesting mix!!
What richness in your new header! I love artist's books too and agree it's a good way to show drawings and prints. I have been working with layering and it works really well - I think the series you are doing is very strong
Such nice work, and the writing is also great! Glad I found your site!
I'm enjoying the feeling of exploration on your blog. Trying this and that and encouraging each other within your group...very inspiring. Love the top photo and your sidebar photos.
Another great new header Jo. I see an art angel right in the middle….I always enjoy seeing your work.
Yummy colrs, in fact my favourite, sage green and a washed red..
My gorgeous package arrived today, with the mushroom book, the prints and the lovely, petite etching... thank you so much for my gift, it was so unexpected!
Jo, slowly you get me with these prints. It's been really a while since I printed something and now I'm sitting here, dribbling my feet and want to try it again!
Let's see..
Your results are amazing an inspiring!
Happy Easter day!!
"Beware of the ides of March" ;) What an interesting group of artist friends you have. These projects are so stimulating. Love your new header.
wow...great your new header...great your works!
These look wonderful Jo, love the loose style. Thanks for the birthday wishes too.
so fascinated by your torn peice of paper--TIME and its way of being etched...
to make so much meaning out of it; that is when we know our wealth.
hi Jo love the multilayer print and warm colour build up
xx
I love these prints. The colours are wonderful as are the many layers.
Dear Jo, you are always so inspiring. wherenever I'm stuck, I should look to your blog and get inspired!
I've been stuck quite a bit lately. The owner of the gallery I work in , same as the gallery I'll have an exhibition in in september, gives her opinion very openly and very eastern europeanly! She said she didn't like my work that was the basis of my exhibition work! I pander too much to others, I should just keep going eh!? Oh well! I think I need to play, your work always looks so alive with play.
