" My Bag "

I had been feeling like not much has been happening over my side of the fence lately...until I sat myself down to write this post. And I'm glad I did, because it made me realise that in the last few weeks, I have actually been doing "stuff"...

I have been working on a new artist book...It's titled 'MY BAG', this is the front cover.
The pages are yet to be conceived, but I have just started working on a series of 7 small copperplate etchings, that once printed will hopefully be included in the pages of this book.
"My Bag" is a little delve into the "inner" for me (again). Although I am hoping this book will have a "lightness" to it!

I received a wonderful surprise of Japanese ephemera from Jason...Jason has been collecting these great papers for me, thanks Jase...Hm mm another book maybe! definitely some collage's!

I visited Bridget at her etsy store Bridbird, and look what I found...beautiful artist books. Bridget thoughtfully sent me a third very gorgeous little surprise titled "common myna"...These are just so special.

I finally joined the Victorian Papermakers, so glad I did. I was sent a great introduction package of newsletters, resource lists and a heap of other valuable information.

My "Daily Pictures" collaboration with Janette has been ticking over on a daily basis, We have been introducing weekly themes like erosion, yellow and at the moment colour!

Spent the day in El's print studio where I had a disastrous time with the soft ground I was using on my copper plates. The ground started to lift, whilst the plates were still in acid. The acid seemed a bit strange too!!! after proofing and seeing the dismal results...I have decided to start again! using the back of the plates. I am using a different soft ground this time...and this one seems to look a little suspect too!!!

I'm feeling a bit better writing this, because I am realizing, that my art practise is still simmering along...sometimes it's good to write things down. Making this list has really made me see that I am still creating. It's just that I haven't really felt like I have been doing much at all.

Today is a day in the studio for me...working on the pages...and fingers crossed, having a bit of luck with these new etching plates.

***Update***
I bound these pages using the "Coptic Binding" method...using a waxed linen thread.
I have been struggling with this technique for ages, it was starting to bug me.
Especially because my "Quiet Book" was screaming...I mean whispering "Jo, please bind me now, it's time"

Today, I found a great website with easy (well easier) to read instructions...

And look I did it!!!

okay, the 'my bay' cover is just amazing! it doesn't look like you've skipped a beat since your exhibition closed......hope the etching process goes better on the other side - I just totally redid a painting today - something about the shapes just didn't sit right with me! it still doesn't - oh, well, there is always tomorrow! xxo

Jo, wow, I don't know where to start. There's...mmmh...quite a lot happening on your side of the fence.
And all I see is fantastic...
Two weeks ago I watched somebody printing a copper-print, something I only did back in school- and I SO MUCH wanted to make one myself.
So what? Grass is always greener on your side of the fence??
No no, I'm pretty happy with my baroque-pieces at the moment but I'm very very inspired by what you're doing!
Those waxed boxes are wonderful!!!

Thank you!!!

Zing! Love the daily pictures. The bag project is fascinating. It's funny how at times we think nothing's going on, but once we sit down to write about studio doings, find out there's been plenty.

"please bind me" sounds like a strange wedding proposal-- made me LOL.

could you share the site you learned from? Maybe, possibly?

When I stop squealing about the "my bag" book, today I wne to t my diary to list everything I did this week for art as well, as a way to acknowledge the process.

it IS alot when you think about it. And besides, some great artisit said that 90% of his painting was done in his head.

Now on to the bag...it looks exxactly like the little purse an antique pair of opera glasses came in. They are so attractive.

oh jo, your book is exquisite! isn't it the most delightful feeling to gaze at a book you've just bound using coptic stitch?! jeez, it makes me grin all over. also i love the cover for 'my bag'.

always inspired by you sweet woman...

I so enjoy my visits to your blog Jo. I love the idea of the My Bag book. Especially, it’s lovely to see your quiet book in its stylish binding. Thanks for pointing out that we may think we are not “producing” when in fact we are. The ebb and flow of art. I spend days making collage papers, and don’t see any completed collage. But then – bingo! – a lot of collage come together all at once. I wish I could hold you quiet book in my hands and turn the pages one by one…..

"My Bag" is such a lovely surprise! Quiet book is calling out to me....If only I could hold it! It's amazing how writing things down helps you to focus. Often when I feel I'm going nowhere I will sit quietly with a cup of coffee and mull over my thoughts on paper. At the end of the "exercise" everything comes into perspective. It's a bit like pressing the zoom button on your camera.

Wonderful cover for "My Bag" and the copper etchings sound very interesting.
Your "Quiet Book" is bound, certainly an accomplishment (I have two to finish binding).
As always loving your photos!

Below is the link where I found the book binding method...It is clearer to follow than others I have seen.
I think practice makes perfect too...

So don't be dissapointed by first attempts.
Mansuetude, nice your back :)
